 Chapter 1. Title

Article 1

The name of this organization is “The Korean Sociological Association” (hereinafter, “KSA” or “the Association”).

Article 2

The location of the office of the Association shall be designated by the President with the approval of the Board of Directors.

 

Chapter 2. Purpose and Projects

Article 3

The purpose of the Association is to conduct academic research in sociology and related fields and to exchange professional knowledge among members.

Article 4

In order to fulfill the purpose of the Association at Article 3, the KSA shall conduct the following projects:

1. Research presentations and academic research projects
2. Publication of scholarly journals
3. Exchange and cooperation with domestic and foreign/international academic associations
4. Other projects to achieve the purpose of the Association.

 

Chapter 3. Membership

Article 5

The KSA shall have the following membership categories: individual members (regular members, associate members, honorary members, and special members), collective members, and institutional members.

Article 6

Regular members are persons who are engaged in teaching and research in sociology or related sciences with a graduate degree of master’s or higher, or equivalent qualifications, and is engaged in similar work. They shall join the Association after filling out and submitting the application form posted on the website of the KSA and confirming the qualification for regular membership.

Article 7

Associate members are undergraduate graduates and master’s students in sociology or related sciences. They shall join after deliberation by the Board of Directors.

Article 8

1. Special members are those who have made significant contributions or have a deep interest in the development of the Association and are nominated by the Board of Directors.
2. Among the regular members, members aged 65 or older who have been members for 20 years or more, or retired professors, may become honorary members upon approval of the Board of Directors.

Article 9

1. Collective members are academic organizations or equivalent organizations, including departments of each university and academic associations, that are interested in the activities of the Association. They shall join after deliberation by the Board of Directors.
2. Institutional members are incorporations and institutions that support the purpose of the Association. They shall join after deliberation by the Board of Directors.

Article 10

1. To become a member of the Association, a member shall pay the prescribed admission fee upon joining.
2. Members shall pay the prescribed annual fee.
3. Members who do not pay dues for two consecutive years shall have their membership rights restricted.
4. The amount and method of payment of dues for each classification of members shall be determined through deliberation by the Board of Directors.

Article 11

Members shall have the following rights:

1. Regular members, honorary members, and special members may participate in all projects such as academic events organized by the Association and writings and research projects organized by the Association.
2. Regular members, honorary members, and special members may receive all materials published by the Association, including the journals.
3. Regular members, honorary members, and special members shall have the right to vote and hold office.
4. Associate members may participate in academic events organized by the Association.
5. Associate members can receive news and materials sent by e-mail.
6. Collective and institutional members can receive the journals and news and materials sent by e-mail.
7. Collective members and institutional members can participate in academic events organized by the Association.
8. Associate members, collective members, and institutional members do not have the right to vote or hold office.

Article 12

A member who defames the honor of the Association may be expelled after deliberation by the Board of Directors. However, the President should report this to the next General Assembly.

 

Chapter 4. Officers and Organization

Article 13

The Association shall have the following officers:

1. President: 1 person
2. Vice Presidents: 2 persons
3. Directors: In addition to Ex Officio Directors, there shall be around 50 Appointed Directors. Among them, there may be Executive Directors in charge of specific tasks.
4. Executive Directors: There shall be around 25 Executive Directors, and they are in charge of the following tasks: (1) General Management, (2) Research Division, (3) International Collaboration, (4) Public Relations, and (5) Other Tasks designated by the President
5. Auditors: 2 persons.

Article 14

1. All the Officers of the Association shall be elected from among the regular members, and only regular members may participate in the election of Article 11.
2. The election method of the President shall be in accordance with separate regulations. The Vice Presidents shall be recommended by the President and approved by the Board of Directors in the previous year. The auditors shall be elected at the General Assembly.
3. Appointed Directors shall be appointed by the President in consultation with the Vice Presidents. Immediate Past President, Immediate Past Vice Presidents, President-Elect, and Editor-in-Chief shall be Ex Officio Directors.
4. The term of President, Vice Presidents, and Auditors shall be one year each, and they may be re-elected for one term only.

Article 15

1. The President shall represent the Association, and be Chair the General Assembly, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee.
2. The Vice-Presidents shall assist the President and assume the duties of the President in the event of his/her absence in order of seniority.
3. The Board of Directors shall deliberate and resolve important matters of the Association.
4. The Executive Committee shall assist the President, and handle the business of the Association designated by the Presidency.
5. The Auditor shall audit the operation and accounting of the Association, and report to the General Assembly at least once a year.
6. The President-Elect may participate in and express opinions to the Executive Committee.

 

Chapter 5. General Assembly, the Board of Directors, and Other Committees

Article 16

1. The General Assembly shall be divided into regular and extraordinary ones.
2. The Regular General Assembly shall be held at the time of the regular sociological conference, and the Extraordinary General Assembly shall be convened by the President when the President deems it necessary or upon the request of more than 1/6 of the regular members.
3. The General Assembly shall be constituted by more than 1/3 of the regular members, including delegated cases, and shall be decided by the affirmative vote of the majority of the regular members present.
4. The date of the General Assembly shall be determined by the Board of Directors. And it shall be announced by mail or other means at least one week before the date of the General Assembly.
5. The General Assembly deliberates and makes decisions on issues submitted by the Board of Directors and raised by regular members, approves the business reports, the budgets and financial statements, and the appointment and dismissal of Officers.

Article 17

1. The Board of Directors shall consist of the President, Vice Presidents, and Directors, and shall be convened by the President when necessary. However, upon the request of at least 1/3 of the Directors, the President shall immediately convene a meeting.
2. The Executive Committee is composed of the President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Directors, and is convened by the President when necessary.
3. The Board of Directors and the Executive Committee shall be established by a majority of attendance, and shall be decided by a majority of votes cast.

Article 18

1. The Editorial Board shall be established to organize the publication work of the Association. Affiliated Research Institutes shall be established to promote the members’ research activities.
2. The Association may establish Special Committees by resolution of the General Assembly to fulfill the purposes of the Association.
3. The composition and operation of the Editorial Board, Affiliated Research Institutes, and Special Committees shall be governed by separate regulations.

 

Chapter 6. Regional Branches and Association Subsidiaries

Article 19

The Association may establish Regional Branches to promote research activities in each region. However, the organization and activities shall be governed by separate regulations.

Chapter 7. Finance and Administration

Article 21

1. The finances of the Association shall be covered by membership fees and other income.
2. The amount of fees for each member shall be determined by the Board of Directors.
3. Deductible fees for research projects of the Association shall be determined by the Executive Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors.
4. The President may appoint a secretary to efficiently carry out the work of the Association, and the secretary shall be paid a prescribed allowance.

 

Chapter 8. Addenda

Article 22

The Bylaws may be amended by resolution of the General Assembly.

Article 23

Matters not specified in the Bylaws may be executed by resolution of the Board of Directors. However, the President should report it to the next General Assembly.
